He was a Knight of the Order of St. Stephen.

The military and Chivalrous Order of St. Stephen was started by Cosimo I dei Medici in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany (1561). His memberships were part in the battle of Le-panto and performed extraordinary sailor-like undertakings when fighting against the Turks. They defended the Christian ships while sailing the Mediterranean Sea and efficaciously opposed the piratical incursions to prevent the spreading of Islamism.

The Grand Master was Head of the Order, he was supported by eight conventual non-commissioned officers.

The Supreme Council or Grand Master presiding over the forming of constitutions was consisting in II dignitaries (Priors and Grand-Cross). The knights had to belong to noble Families and were divided into: ecclesiastical knights (appointed to the govern-parish-churches and like Master of the Ceremonies during meetings) and secular knights (devoted to war-enterptises).

The insegna for the Order consisted in a cross in red satin on white field, sewn on one front side of a cloaok to which a very small cross in go1d was then hang up by simple knights.
